There’s Only One Right Choice
by Darrell C. Porter
When I was in elementary school, studying my most difficult subject–Math–I learned that everything boils down to its most simplest form. This new-found revelation, later, helped me realize that all of life holds this simple principle. Everything boils down to its most simplest form.
Careful study of the Bible reveals that the most profound and complicated matters reduce to their most simplest form. Yet men and their varied systems make matters more complicated and diverse. They inject things into things that don’t fit, and re-form things into other things that should never be. They create complexity even they don’t understand.
In quiet pondering, the one who looks for clean solutions, clear and understandable, finds that the Bible is filled with them.
Consider the Bible’s accounts of societies that worship many different gods. The divine record juts out from among them like a mighty mountain and brazenly declares, there is only one God.
Stare at the statement for a moment. Look all about and explore, if you can, everything in existence. You will not find a single creature of man’s creation to be real or to exist anywhere else other than in his own colorful imagination, or the product of his own physical construction. Nor will you find the concoctions of demons themselves to be real. When all the emotional, intellectual and the whirling dust is settled (and only what is, remains) one will be left gazing at the unshakeable truth that there is indeed ONLY one God.
That’s only one of the many one things the Bible declares.
Reflecting His image (Gen.1:27) man is to be married only to a woman, and only to one at a time. Likewise, the woman only to one man.
‘The LORD our God is one.” (De 6:4)
There is only one eternal Savior. The Savior was sent by His Father, the One and only living God.
There is only one Holy Spirit; and those who are born of Him share that same Spirit.
There is only one Holy Spirit; and all those who are born of Him share that same Spirit.
There is one faith.
…one baptism
…one way to heaven. Many paths make their claim, yet only lead to destruction and hell. Only one leads to heaven.
There is one eternal Truth. Jesus Christ is that Truth. No one else. Indeed no one else is required.
There is only One source of life. Nothing else provides life, either natural or divine, but God from Whom all life comes
“There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.” (Eph.4:6)
Even in our solar system there is only one sun; and it is sufficient for all the light we need on the earth. There is also only one God, and He is far more than enough Light for all our spiritual need.
If one steps outside on a clear day, at high noon, and utterly denies there is a sun, even if that person were totally blind he would be considered out of his mind. Since even if he could not see the sun he could not avoid feeling its warmth. In all of life, to deny the existence of God, in the face of all the over-whelming evidence of His reality, is to uncover the simple fact of one’s own lunacy.
“For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse.” (Ro 1:20)
Unlike the blazing, mighty sun that sits up in the sky, “the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world” (Joh 1:9) is approachable. If you don’t think He exists, take a risk and call out to Him in prayer. Simply ask and He will make Himself known to you. All you have to do is ask.
These are but simple truths a child can grasp. Simplicity is sufficient when truth is the only objective and when it’s the only voice that speaks. Truth has no competitor. Nothing can win over it. Nothing can make the truth more than what it is. Pure gold is pure gold. It cannot be improved upon or diminished without corrupting it. In all it’s purity truth is what it is.
Jesus was Who He was; and He did not seek to prove it when He stated, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” (Jn.14:) His objective was to reveal this truth to those who could not see it. What He stated was not a sudden change of facts. No. This Word had already been “forever settled in heaven.” (Ps 119:89) Furthermore, the reality of Jesus as the Messiah would eventually be known by all.
“That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Php.2:9-11)
Every knee! Here, not only will all who believe bow to Him in worship, when the swirling dust settles from all the raucous arguments of doubters, unbelievers, atheists and ignorant, they too will clearly know Who He is. Likewise, and with no other gods to look to, they will bow to Him Who alone holds the worlds and all creation in the palm of His hand, and their eternal destiny at His finger tip.
There is only one right choice in life and eternity.
The One and only God has simplified it, saying: “I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live.” (De 30:19)
In the stress and madness of this confused and wicked world, prayer lifts up each and everyone who desires God. It secures the heart so you can make the right choice. Those who pray, those who meekly seek after the LORD, and believe Him in their heart, add up for themselves precious rewards with everlasting fruit, in eternal life.
