Little Green Men

Vladimir Putin’s recent invasion of Ukraine can teach us a valuable spiritual lesson.
Because of his actions, when I write Putin’s name, I’m never sure if I should spell it with a ‘u’ or ‘double o.’

BBC carried a broadcast about the Russian military tactic of ‘maskirovka.’ The maskirovka tactic is to lie and deny, deceive and defeat.

“Pyotr Shelomovskiy, a Russian photojournalist, was there as they arrived. He had rushed down to Crimea expecting tensions to arise after Ukraine’s Russian-backed president, Viktor Yanukovych, fled the country – and on 24 February he watched local pro-Russian activists building a small barricade on the square outside parliament.

“They started brewing tea and distributing drinks. Some journalists, myself included, were allowed to take pictures,” says Shelomovskiy, “and that was it for the night.”

Or so he thought. But in the small hours, unmarked military trucks drove up filled with heavily armed men.

“They ordered those demonstrators to lie face down on the ground – until they realised they were on the same side,” says Shelomovskiy. Then they made them carry ammunition into the parliament.

He was told this story by the activists the next morning. “They didn’t really understand themselves what was going on,” he says.

The troops which had arrived in the dark, as if by magic, with no insignia on their olive-coloured uniforms, were soon nicknamed “little green men”.

“We know now these guys were Russian special forces,” says Shelomovskiy. “But no-one said so at the time.”

Denial is another vital component in maskirovka. At a press conference a few days later Vladimir Putin coolly batted away awkward questions about where the troops came from.

“There are many military uniforms. Go into any shop and you can find one,” he said.

But were they Russian soldiers? Poker-faced, the president said the men were local self-defence units.
Five weeks later, once the annexation had been rubber-stamped by the Parliament in Moscow, Putin admitted Russian troops had been deployed in Crimea after all. But the lie had served its purpose. Maskirovka is used to wrong-foot your enemies, to keep them guessing.”

After Russia ‘annexed’ Crimea, they then moved more troops and armor into other parts of Ukraine. At this time you will constantly here American news reports of Ukrainian ‘rebels’ fighting the government, when in fact it is a Russian military operation.

It is said that a Russian critic of Putin was murdered when he was about to reveal Russian involvement in the military action. However, only an infant would not already believe the little green men were Russkies.

Notice what Putin did there. He made a bold incursion, camouflaged to deceive anyone who wanted to be deceived. Then he lied about his move, and kept lying. He did so boldly, unashamedly, and repeatedly. “There are many military uniforms. Go into any shop and you can find one.” Therefore some people concluded that since he was so adamant in his lies, he must be telling the truth. Once it was fully revealed that Putin was lying, he was already ensconced in his new position.

The irony is that Putin used the same technique against Obama that Obama used against America. Lie and deny, deceive and defeat.

Obama lied repeatedly about Obamacare, the government takeover of doctors and hospitals. This was a bold incursion into an area the socialists had not controlled before, and when they did that, they lied about what they were doing. Obama’s most famous Obamacare lie was “You can keep your healthcare plan.” He also lied about the cost to individuals and the nation. This was blatantly admitted by a big-government intellectual who helped craft Obamacare, Jonathan Gruber. Gruber is now under investigation for lying to the state of Vermont.

MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) — A Massachusetts Institute of Technology health economist who made national headlines last year for talking about “the stupidity of the American voter” was a target Monday in a report from the Vermont state auditor saying the economist may have padded his bills to the state.
Auditor of Accounts Douglas Hoffer said he referred his findings on Jonathan Gruber and his contract with the state to Attorney General William Sorrell. Hoffer said Gruber’s invoices billed Vermont $100 per hour for the work of a research assistant — 1,000 hours in 10 weeks.

“To do so, the RA would have worked exclusively on this project for more than 14 hours per day — every day,” the auditor said. “The evidence suggests that Dr. Gruber overstated the hours worked by the RA and that the Agency of Administration ignored the obvious signs that something was amiss.”

Gruber helped shape the Obamacare lies and he apparently lied to the state of Vermont about work he did for them. They may prosecute him for the Vermont lies, but the Obamacare lies will carry no criminal charges. Interesting that he was only publicly charged with the Vermont lies after his admission that Obamacare is a big lie made national news.

In an interview, Gruber explained the Obamacare lies.

“I wish that President Obama could have stood up and said, ‘You know, I don’t know if this bill is going to control costs. It might, it might not…

“Instead, he says ‘I’m going to pass a bill that will lower your health care costs.’ That sells. Now, I wish the world was different. I wish people cared about the 50 million uninsured in America…But, you know, they don’t. And I think, once again, I’m amazed politically that we got this bill through…

“Even if we KNEW how to control health care costs, we couldn’t do it politically. So what do you do? You’re President Obama and the Congress. You promised you’re going to control health care costs…Your pollsters have told you that the American public doesn’t actually care about insurance coverage, all they care about is health care cost…What do you do? Well, you do what I like to think of as sort of a “spaghetti approach.” Throw a bunch of stuff against the wall and see what sticks.”

Like Putin, after their invasion the socialists admitted they had lied. But once they were ensconced in their new fortified position, they couldn’t be removed.

Obama did the same thing with ‘gay marriage,’ which should more accurately be called Gaymorrah marriage.

The UK paper The Daily Mail ran an article about former Obama adviser David Axelrod, who recently released a new book about his life in politics.

The headlines for the article said:

“President told a newspaper in 1996 when he first ran for office that he supported gay marriage; two years later his answer changed to ‘undecided’

By 2008, as a presidential candidate, he was firmly in the ‘traditional marriage’ camp
But Obama returned to his 1996 leanings in 2010, telling the country that his position had ‘evolved’”
Then the article included these statements.

“Documents reveal wild swings in the Chicago politician’s stated positions as his career developed in the 1990s and beyond. But on Tuesday the president claimed his true feelings never wavered.

The president responded to a questionnaire in 1996 from the Chicago-based Outlines newspaper, as he was making his first run for the state Senate in Illinois, saying that he strongly believed in legalizing same-sex unions.

‘I favor legalizing same-sex marriages, and would fight efforts to prohibit such marriages,’ Obama wrote then.

Two years later, as his political future began to take shape, he told the same newspaper that he was ‘undecided.’…

By 2008, under the glare of a presidential campaign and the weight of history, his public rhetoric swung to a position that America’s Bible belt could embrace – support for only a traditional definition of marriage.

But as president in 2010 he returned publicly to his original position 14 years after he first articulated it…

Axelrod writes in ‘Believer: My Forty Years in Politics’ that he told the future president in 2008 that he should hide the ball and deceive the American public for political purposes.

‘Opposition to gay marriage was particularly strong in the black church,’ the former Obama insider writes, ‘and as he ran for higher office, he grudgingly accepted the counsel of more pragmatic folks like me, and modified his position to support civil unions rather than marriage, which he would term a “sacred union”.’

Again Obama’s method was to deliberately deceive in order to get himself into a strategic position where he could execute his plan. Deception and lying is a part of Obama’s strategic process, just as it is for Putin. Obama has now taken America to the position of the sixth city of the Jordan plain, and how does America step back from that established position?

So that’s the maskirova technique of Russian warfare: lie and deny, deceive and defeat.
It’s also a technique of spiritual warfare.

Christian denominations sometimes make a bold incursion into a new area of compromise; that is, they establish a new theological position to avoid conflict with the society around them, in order to preserve the position of the church in society. But when they make that incursion, they deny it. They maintain they are not changing anything, just taking a fresh perspective or phrasing it differently. Since the revered theologians are so respected, when they deny that they are making a change in beliefs, their denials are believed.

The theologians are then able to lead their denominations in a totally new direction, while they are saying and everybody is believing that nothing is changing. These are the little green men with no insignia on their uniforms. After the incursion is ensconced, then the position is openly accepted and advocated. The theologians do not openly admit they were lying all along. They use the same tack as Obama, saying their understanding has “evolved.”

The Roman Catholic Church is going through this process right now. Other church denominations have already gone through this phase. Others will.

Understand this. If someone is changing something, then something is changing. It doesn’t matter who denies it, how many times they deny it, or how strongly they deny it. If someone is changing something, then something is changing. Right now these changes have mostly to do with homosexuality and women preachers, and anti-semitism in opposing Israel.

Denominations go downhill, not up, so the changes they make go from more obedience to lesser obedience. Denominations experience numerical growth but not spiritual growth. The best they can do is hold level. But in this society right now, there is a big push among almost all Christian denominations to see who can go downhill the fastest.

Individuals, on the other hand, do experience spiritual growth. That is the purpose of our lives.
He, in the days of his flesh, having offered up prayers and petitions with strong crying and tears to him who was able to save him from death, and having been heard for his godly fear, though he was a Son, yet learned obedience by the things which he suffered. (Heb 5:7-8)

… until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a full grown man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; that we may no longer be children, tossed back and forth and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in craftiness, after the wiles of error; but speaking truth in love, we may grow up in all things into him, who is the head, Christ; (Eph 4:13-15)

Part of that spiritual growth is learning not to be deceived. Deception occurs among Christians because some want to be deceived. They want to go along with the society, but they don’t want to admit that’s what they’re doing. Always they want to say they’re serving God, while they turn toward Satan’s world. Church organizations do this because they do not want to face the hard reality of persecution for obedience. Individuals often do the same thing.

However, there will always be a few individuals who do not follow that path. They are not deceived because they do not want the world that deceives them. They seek favor with God more than favor with people. They constantly search the word of God and constantly seek the spirit of God. Therefore, when you see preachers and teachers, with whatever stripes on their uniforms, advocating greater disobedience while denying it, just realize they are … Russian soldiers.
